-ครัวไทยสู่ครัวโลก
รัฐบาลภายใต้การนำของนายกรัฐมนตรี (พ.ต.ท. ดร.ทักษิณ ชินวัตร) ได้กำหนดเป้าหมายสำคัญในการพัฒนาประเทศไทยประการหนึ่ง คือ การเป็นครัวของโลก (Kitchen of the World) เนื่องจากไทยเป็นแหล่งผลิตอาหารที่อุดมสมบูรณ์ อีกทั้งอาหารไทยยังมีชื่อเสียงระดับโลก และเป็นที่นิยมของต่างชาติ ซึ่งนอกจากความโดดเด่นด้านรสชาติแล้ว อาหารไทยยังแสดงถึงความคิดสร้างสรรค์ ความประณีตบรรจงสวยงาม รวมทั้งองค์ประกอบของเครื่องปรุงที่มีประโยชน์ต่อสุขภาพ ยากที่จะหาชาติใดทัดเทียมได้ รัฐบาลจึงมีนโยบายส่งเสริมให้อาหารไทยเป็นอาหารยอดนิยมของผู้บริโภคในระดับ สากล โดยมุ่งดำเนินการอย่างเป็นระบบให้มีการขยายตัวของตลาดอาหารไทยและร้านอาหาร ไทยที่มีคุณภาพดีเป็นจำนวนมาก ซึ่งส่งผลดีต่อการสร้างภาพลักษณ์ที่ดีของประเทศ รวมทั้งการส่งเสริมการท่องเที่ยวไทย การส่งออกสินค้าอาหารและสินค้าอื่นๆ จากอุตสาหกรรมต่อเนื่อง รวมไปถึงสินค้าจาก OTOP
